Latest Forum Posts T-Mobile myTouch 3G Gets Official, Preorders Start July 8 In Forum: Other Communicators Posted: Mon Jun 22, 2009 10:25 am By: Administrator
I have to buy this. I am never satisfied. Even if it is the same hardware as the G1 (my current comm), it doesn't matter. I want it - I will have it. It will be mine. Besides, my G1 is an original and HAS the original SQUEEKY hinge THING that most early hardware on the G1 had. Time to get rid of the hardware KB for good (for now!). Check out that sleek vett-like profile.

T-Mobile's second Android phone, the myTouch 3G (previously known as the HTC Magic which we reviewed here), has finally been announced in an official capacity for $200. Its official official name is the "T-Mobile myTouch 3G with Google".
It's basically the same specs as we've seen in other incarnations, and it'll work with T-Mobile's 3G frequencies. We'll take a look at what customizations T-Mobile has put on the phone, but for a general idea of what to expect of this one over the original T-Mobile G1, take a look at our review of the Google Ion.

Smartphone Buyers Guide: The Best of the Best In Forum: Other Communicators Posted: Fri Jun 12, 2009 1:25 pm By: Administrator
Talk about gang-bangers! I would just like to buy them all and call it a headache. I have th G1 and iPhone-3G. It is just a matter of time for the WebOS - but I don't think Vzw will ever have a phone slurpy enough for me to want to sign anything with them.

As the dust settles from the last two weeks of mobile madness, one question remains unanswered: Which of the new generation of smartphones should you actually buy? We've collected everything you need to know.
We've selected the five phones that most feel like modern handsets to us—the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3G S, the Palm Pre, the HTC Magic (or, as we soon expect, the T-Mobile G2) and the BlackBerry Storm—and broken them down by hardware, software and cost. This is a guide in the strictest sense, meaning we aren't declaring winners or losers, just giving you the information you need to make your own choice. So! On with the matrices. |

A very good question. If they were both on T-Mobile.. I would get them both, and pair them all with my G1. I can never decide until I versus them all together.

So, let's get right down to it. Knowing what we know about the Palm Pre and the likely release the iPhone 3G 2009, which one (if any) is worth your hard earned cash?

Garmin Nuvi 885T - the one I should have bought... In Forum: Satellite TECH Posted: Fri May 22, 2009 5:16 pm By: Administrator
I am a fan of Nuvi's. The UI, the features (and Karen, the sleek sounding Australian personality that tells me when shes "re-calculating" after I take a wrong turn. Some time back, I bought a Nuvi 780, and it's a great GPS - though, Seeing as how prices seem to be coming down, the Nuvi 885T is the one I should have held out for. It's got everything the N780 does, with added voice-activated features. So, if you like talking to your car, this is the GPS for you! Check out the full review at All Reviews Online.

Garmin intros super sleek 5-inch nüvi 1490T navigator In Forum: Satellite TECH Posted: Thu Apr 16, 2009 3:08 pm By: Administrator
Just bought a Nuvi 780... hmm. eBay here I come!
| Quote: |

Just a month ago, Garmin came clean with the nüvi 1390T as part of its 1300 lineup, and today we're being formally introduced to the numerical successor. The nüvi 1490T sports a chassis that's some 25 percent slimmer than most nüvi models and an expansive 5-inch touchscreen. As with other new Garmins, this one also arrives with free lifetime traffic alerts and lane assist with junction view. Other expected amenities are also included, namely multiple-point routing, automatic time zone transition and a speed limit indicator that displays speed limits for most major roads. As insinuated, an integrated traffic receiver comes standard, and there's even an ecoRoute feature that suggests the most fuel efficient path. Finally, prospective buyers can count on Bluetooth technology for making and receiving handsfree calls, and the support for optional CityXplorer maps makes this suitable for the pedestrian in you, too. Expect it on store shelves everywhere this July for $499.99. |

Sony HX1 with 20x Optical Zoom, 1080p Video for 5 bones. In Forum: GIZMOFO! Posted: Wed Mar 04, 2009 5:23 am By: Administrator
Thinking... my F828 might be getting old!
| Quote: |

While this beast is technically still a point-and-shoot and not a DSLR, you have to admit that the features are really quite astounding. The Sony HX1 is an absolute monster and it'll do a lot more than your budget P&S.
For starters, that large barrel lens is capable of providing 20x optical zoom, making it perfect for visits to the zoo or other cases where you can't get all that close to your subject. You can preview it all on the 3-inch tilting LCD, shooting stills with the 9.1 megapixel 1/2.4-inch Exmore CMOS sensor. It'll also do continuous burst shots at 10fps.
Still pictures not enough to satiate your needs? How about clicking on over to the 1080p video recording feature, letting you capture full HD video from the handheld camera. That's a quantum leap above the regular VGA videos that most point-and-shoot cameras can do.
Other noted features include the Sweep Panorama Mode for 224-degree horizontal and 154-degree vertical shots, a BIONZ imaging processor for image stitching, Intelligent Scene Recognition, face detection, reduced red-eye, and iSCN Advance.
Look for the Sony HX1 to retail for about $500 when it ships next month.

Live Look at the SideKick 2009 Blade In Forum: Danger-Speak Posted: Wed Feb 18, 2009 7:48 pm By: Administrator
Well, 3.2 inches CAN be pretty big for a sidekick, but its been standard for a few years now with slate style smartphones. The only thing this is lacking is Wifi - which is a shame. I will be curious to see the "turn-by-turn" GPS that has been rumored.
| Quote: |

Danger, Will Robinson! Danger! Oh wait, it's the good kind of Danger (with a capital D), because here is one of the first live glimpses at the upcoming SideKick 2009.
You have known this messaging-centric handset by its "Blade" codename for the last little while, but it seems that SideKick 2009 will be the phone's official name when it launches a little later this year.
We think this is a legitimate photograph of an engineering unit, but because the development cycle is far from over, there may still be some minor changes to the design and layout before the phone hits the retail channels in a few months.
The overall design of the SideKick "Blade" 2009 is, naturally, very similar to all the SideKicks that preceded it. You still get the same QWERTY keyboard, trackball, and landscape-oriented display. We hear that it may be the first SK with 3G, which is a definite plus.
Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the current word has the SideKick 2009 launching in the Fall, barely making it into the "2009" part of its name.

It's for Vodaphone in the UK, but that dosnt mean we cant get excited. But, for me, in order for a non-KB android to work, it needs a bigger screen to be comfortable to type on. 3.5 at least.

Garmin and Asus Join Forces, Launch Co-Branded Nuvifone In Forum: Other Communicators Posted: Wed Feb 04, 2009 5:23 am By: Administrator
Oooooh, so we actually have 3 OS's possibly. The original Linux/Java Nuvifone, then the WinMo, and of course Android (That's 3, right?). Well, I don't know how well this is going to go - I think focusing on one OS would be the better decision. And since Android is "FREE" they might cap their monetary bandwidth if using WinMo. They will probably end up dropping one of them anyway... unless ASUS end uses WinMO only (which is apparent with THEIR line of phones) and Garmin with Android, which makes sense since their NuviOS was Linux anyway - so its most likely an easy switch.
| Quote: |

Forget Eee Phones: Garmin and Asus have created a strategic alliance to design, build and sell co-branded Nuvifones, starting with the original one—now called G60—and moving towards Windows Mobile and Android.
Yes, the delayed Nuvifone is still scheduled to come out in the first half of 2009. There's no carrier or price announcement yet—Garmin says they are in active negotiations with GSM carriers in North America (so, AT&T and T-Mobile) and in Europe—but now it will be named the Garmin-Asus Nuvifone G60, and will be the first in a line of Garmin-Asus smartphones. It will be on display and ready for groping at next month's Mobile World Congress (formerly known as 3GSM).
